Beginning Beekeeper Course

Please note: that the class is now full.

If you’re interested in becoming a beekeeper, or you’re a new beekeeper looking to gain more information, our annual Bee School is a great place to start. This North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA)-approved course provides an overview of beekeeping and prepares you to keep bees. No prior experience is required to take the course.

This is a 16-hour course, held in person. The structured classes start on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, and will continue each Wednesday evening from approximately 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm through March 27 with a Saturday Field Day t/b/a. Classes are held in the Alamance County Center in Burlington.

The cost of the course is $75.00. This includes materials and $25.00 in dues for the Alamance County Beekeepers ($10.00) and NC State Beekeepers Association ($15.00). If your spouse or other family member wants to take the course and can share the materials, the cost for the additional person would be $25.00.

It’s best to register for the course by January 24, so we have time to email you the appropriate links and collect any additional information.

To register, please use the link below or send your name, address, telephone number, and email address, along with your payment to: Alamance County Beekeepers, PO Box 512, Snow Camp, NC 27349. Please make checks payable to Alamance County Beekeepers.

  • $75 for an individual
  • $100 for a family

We would also like to announce that in 2024, the Alamance County Farm Bureau will again be sponsoring a Cost-Share program. This is a program whereby a limited number of people are awarded two hives each, along with a package of bees for each hive. Information for how to apply to this program will be covered on the first evening of class.

Note: Any ACB member that is currently active in the club, and has taken the class prior, can retake the class for $10. Requires membership to the club and state ($25). No course materials will be supplied since the member has received them with the prior class.
