Beginning Beekeeper Course

If you’re interested in becoming a beekeeper, or you’re a new beekeeper looking to gain more information, our annual Bee School is a great place to start. This North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA)-approved course provides an overview of beekeeping and prepares you to keep bees. No prior experience is required to take the course.

This 20–24 hour course requires no experience and covers everything you need to know to start beekeeping. Classes begin on January 13, 2026. The course is held in person every Tuesday evening for ten weeks (6:30–8:30 pm), ending with a Saturday Field Day (TBD). (There are two snow days built into the schedule, so the class may go as late as March 31.) Classes are held in the N.C. Cooperative Extension building in Burlington.

The cost of the course is $75.00. This includes materials and $25.00 in dues for the Alamance County Beekeepers ($10.00) and NC State Beekeepers Association ($15.00). If your spouse or one other family member wants to take the course and can share the materials, the cost for the additional person would be $25.00.

It’s best to register for the course as soon as possible, so we have time to email you the appropriate links and collect any additional information.

To register, please use the link below or send your name, address, telephone number, and email address, along with your payment to: Alamance County Beekeepers, PO Box 512, Snow Camp, NC 27349. Please make checks payable to Alamance County Beekeepers.

Note: Any ACB member that is currently active in the club, and has taken the class prior, can retake the class for $10. Requires membership to the club and state ($25). No course materials will be supplied since the member has received them with the prior class.
